(note: There are two versions of this poem)
Let Me Tell You Where I'm Coming From...
I was born a girl
In the year 1999
Blue and hazel are my eyes
I say hello without goodbyes
But with my dusty faded
freckles and face
I ain’t no skinny faced girly-girl
but a hard-face tomboy
I’m a singing Greek and a
God is the life
we live on
my line of sports
red dragons rule the world
with a fiery breath of soccer
I kick around the world
curled in a corner
with my little, old book
Locked in a journal
That's the end of my poem
but if you don’t know so
my name is...
Let Me Tell You Where I’m Coming From…
I was born a female
in the year 1999
I come from a long line of blue and hazel eyes
and small people
and when you look at me you might see a petite girl with a dusting of freckles
and an oval face.
when you look at me you might not see a clear skin girl, a skinny face or thin lips.
I come from a long line of Greeks and Germans
and when I look at my world, I keep in mind that what’s really important
is to stick with family and friends forever and that God is the world.
I come from a long line of people who play sports
my soccer team is the Red Dragons.
and this has helped me to look at the world with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
I love being from a long line of book lovers.
because it gives me the ability to love books.
and challenges me to try new, new levels.
